California False Lupine

March-July

Shady Areas

Fabaceae

Thermopsis macrophylla

"Lupine-like"

"Large leaves"

These plants grow in shady areas often at the edge of wooded areas. California false lupine has only three leaflets whereas true lupines have four or more leaflets (divisions to the leaf). The 1/2"-wide flowers grow on a foot-long stalk.

California false lupine can be found along the road to Frog Lake near the monument and occasionally at Manzanita Point.
