California Buttercup

February-May

Wooded and Wet Open Areas

Ranunculaceae

Ranunculus californicus

"Little frog for wet habitat"

"Of California"

The shiny yellow flower of this plant will be recognized by many. It is one of the most common flowers and should be seen on even the shortest of hikes. The 1"-wide flowers stand on a foot long stalk.

A walk along Pine Ridge, Forest Trail, or the upper part of the Fish Trail are good places to find buttercups.
