Legume Family Hillside Pea February-May Shady Areas |
Fabaceae Lathyrus vestitus "Ancient Greek name for some pea family plants" "Clothed, as with hairs, hairy" |
This plant is in the same family as string beans, peas, and sweet peas. The resemblance can be seen in the flowers and seed pods. The plant often drapes itself over other plants a little like a vine, but when free standing, can be about a foot or so tall. The flowers are about 3/4" across.
It is found in open wooded areas along the Flat Frog Trail and along the road to Frog Lake.
