Lily Family Giant Trillium February-May Deep Shade |
Liliaceae Trillium chloropetalum "For the three part leaves" "Greenish petals" |
Trillium is an unusual and beautiful flower growing only in deep shade. It is found almost exclusively in canyon bottoms. The variegated large leaves are attractive enough to deserve notice. The 2-3"-wide flower blooms in the center of a plant up to 12" wide.
Several of these plants bloom each year near the foundation of the old hotel at Madrone Soda Springs, along the road above the Little Fork of Coyote Creek and one grows alongside the trail to China Hole at Keeney Cabin.
