Gooseberry Family Fuchsia-flowered Gooseberry January-March Shady Areas |
Grossulariaceae Ribes speciosum "Ancient Arabic name" "Showy, beautiful" |
Fuchsia-flowered gooseberry is well named. Although it is a member of the genus Ribes which contains gooseberries and currants, its flowers look very much like hanging Fuchsias. The plant is a good sized bush, 1-3' tall. The 1 - 1 1/2" flowers hang down at the ends of the branches.
Fuchsia-flowered gooseberry can be found at Manzanita Point near campsite number 10 at Rabbit Spring, along the trail above Jackass Peak and at various locations along the road leading to the park.
