Dodecatheon hendersonii

"12 Gods plant. Favored by the Gods"

"L. F. Henderson, botanist"

This plant differs from the lowland shooting star, D. clevelandii, in that it grows in woodland areas and its longer stem is red rather than green. The flower head is on a 6-7" stalk. You may notice the resemblance to the garden plant cyclamen to which shooting stars are related.

Look for this plant in Soda Spring Canyon and along the road between Blue Ridge and Jackass Peak.
