Dodecatheon clevelandii

"12 Gods plant. Favored by the Gods"

"Daniel Cleveland, Southern California botanist"

This beautiful plant forms miniature forests in open grassy areas. The small basal leaves are not very noticable, but the flower head on a 4-6" stalk waves above the grasses. Another species, Dodecatheon hendersonii, which has a reddish flower stalk (instead of green) is found in shaded areas.

Lowland shooting star is found in grassy meadows along the road to Poverty Flat and other locations within the park.
