"Eagle Flowers resembling an eagle in flight"

"Beautiful"

The common name of this beautiful flower refers to doves. The flower appears to be a group of five doves all facing each other. The spurs on the back part of the petal are the necks and heads, the flared sections (actually the sepals) are the body and wings. The plant can be fairly large with leaves standing on foot tall stems. The flowers are on 1 - 2 foot-tall stalks that arc over the plant.

These plants can be found downstream from the old hotel at Madrone Soda Springs, between Poverty Flat and China Hole and the narrows of the East Fork of Coyote Creek south of China Hole. A large group of these plants grow along the Flat Frog Trail about three quarters of the way to the Little Fork crossing.
