Blue-eyed Grass

February-May

Open Grasslands

Iridaceae

Sisyrinchium bellum

"Pig and snout for pigs rooting for bulb"

"Handsome"

This plant is a relative of the iris and is a member of the iris family. You can not tell from the flowers, but the similarity can be seen in the leaves. One to several 1"-wide flowers are found on a 12" stalk above the 8"-long linear leaves. Blue-eyed grass is found in any open grassland especially near the Corral and the first part of the trail to the Monument.
