Borage Family Hound's Tongue February-May Woodlands |
Boraginaceae Cynoglossum grande "Dog-tongue due to leaf shape" "Large" |
The flowers resemble the forget-me-not which is related. The large lance-shaped leaves of this plant growing in shady areas are distinctive in early spring. A good place to find hound's tongue is along the trail to the corral just after you leave the Visitor Center. It is also found under the trees at Manzanita Point. The plant itself is striking with 4-8" lance shaped leaves. The flower stalks stand 1-2' above the plant with 3/8" blooms clustered at the top.
